universal Studios Hollywood and Rob Zombie are hosting a film competition in honor of Universal's annual Halloween Horror Nights. The prize is $1,000, a showing of the film on the television station Chiller and a trip for two to the opening of Halloween Horror Nights. The winner will also be honored in front of a lot of people in the horror industry at Universal's annual Eyegore Awards.
Anyone can enter the film competition. The film should be anywhere from 90 seconds to three minutes. All the entries are judged by Rob Zombie (The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween and Halloween II) himself as well as other top people in the horror industry. They're looking for an original scary story. The deadline for the contest is August 14th. Send two copies of the short film to “Halloween Horror Nights-Rob Zombie Film Competition,” 100 Universal City Plaza, Building 5511, 100 Universal City CA 91608.
After the judges look at all the entries, the top 10 will be posted online. The public will vote on for their favorite to win the grand prize. The public voting period is between September 3rd – 17th, 2010. The winner will be announced on September 17th.
Universal Studios Hollywood has 17 Halloween Horror Nights planned. Halloween Horror Nights starts Friday, September 24. The last night is on Halloween itself. During Halloween Horror Nights, the entire park is transformed into a giant haunted house. There are mazes and people dressed up in masks wandering throughout the park. The mazes are based on famous Universal horror movies. This year, there are five mazes. In addition, there's the Terror Tram. Guests can get off the tram and explore the Universal back lot (which guests can't do normally in the day time). In previous years, guests were literally 20 feet away from the famous Bates motel from the movie, Psycho.
Grab the camera and start shooting some scary stuff — fame awaits.
